A look at what I think is his best work of World War I, published in the French magazine L'Illustration in 1918: Six
Mois Dans La Somme or ‘Six Months on the Somme’. There are two paintings I ask you to look at closely. They seem to be a very sympathetic view of black French colonel troops: Sur la route entre Maricourt et Suzanne
(Octobre 1916), with the English title, ‘Supply wagons and road maintenance
team’ and Senegalais blesses sur la roure d'Assevillers (Septembre 1916) with English title ‘Wounded Senegalese Soldiers’.
